Material Origin

Material Origin & Sourcing

Transparency begins with our materials. Every sourcing decision made, no matter the level of significance, is thoughtfully considered with high regard to our environment and those who occupy it. Below we have listed all materials used in production and details about their origin, purpose, and selection.

Leather

All Coeur products are made with full grain leather. This type of leather is minimally processed and utilizes the entire thickness of an animal's hide. It is known for its strength and beautiful aging process, developing a patina over time. Our leather is vegetable-tanned, a process that uses organic plant matter to convert raw animal skin to leather. It is more time-consuming and costly than the more common alternative of chrome-tanned leather, but it results in leather of unmatched durability, exceptional depth, and character. We use no synthetic coatings on our leather.

Our leather is sourced as a by-product of verified U.S. family farms and ranches that practice regenerative agriculture. It is fully traceable, from the land the animals were raised on to where their hides were processed and tanned. We exclusively source leather that is a by-product of holistic land management techniques that aim to restore American land and produce nutrient dense food. We are proud to work with Other Half Processing (OHP) for all leather sourcing. OHP are leaders in buying and selling traceable hides/leather and other byproducts from regenerative livestock in the United States. All orders include a certificate from our supplier verifying the origin of the leather.

Please note: Our hair-on hide leather is currently the only material in our collection that is not sourced from verified regenerative farms. Due to the limited availability of this particular leather that meets our quality and traceability standards, we continue to source this material conventionally while actively working with our supply chain partners to transition it to a regenerative source as soon as viable options become available.

Certifications

Every farm within Coeur's leather supply chain is required to adhere to the GRASS Standard and the Thousand Hills Lifetime Grazed® Lifetime Grazing Producer Protocol, ensuring regenerative grazing practices that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, animal welfare, and responsible land stewardship. In addition, they are third-party certified through the Audubon Certified Bird-Friendly Land program and the American Grassfed Association Certified, providing an additional layer of accountability.

Secondary Components

We use top-quality coated brass hardware in our handbags, renowned for its resistance to corrosion, rust, and tarnishing. This ensures that our hardware not only remains strong and durable, but also maintains its aesthetic appeal over time. By choosing brass, we commit to delivering products that are both enduring and visually striking. We source from two American suppliers/manufacturers known for their premier hardware. Our zippers are made in Los Angeles, CA.
